Day 15 - Itaewon Freedom!

Today I did a walking tour of my neighborhood, Itaewon. There's a really terribly cheezy song about it called, Itaewon Freedom, thus the title.

Itaewon is known for its large non-Korean population. It's the most "international" neighborhood in Seoul (and probably Korea). It is home to Korea's only mosque (building). There's also at least one Vedic (Hindu) center that I know of. Itaewon is what it is because of the close proximity to Yongsan (US) military base. It has a medium-large red light district and several gay clubs/pubs in an area known as "Homo Hill." Which incidentally, is quite near "African Alley," which I showed in the video.

There's quite a lot of good international food--much of it authentic--available in Itaewon. There are surprising selections like Moroccan and Bulgarian food, as well as more common fair such as Italian and Thai foods. There's definitely something appealing for everyone!

I've still got 15 more days to go so ask me some questions here on the blog,
